A Taste of Daily Life in the Reception Classes
Teachers Miss Sharp, Mr Haller TAs Miss McLean Mrs Keenan/Mrs Critchley
Our morning starts at 8.55 a.m. when the children come in to be registered. After a themed carpet session,
we split into groups for our phonics lessons. We then come together for milk and toast before exploring a
range of learning opportunities within our indoor and outdoor provision and focussed activities. Examples of
these activities include: mark making and writing, number games, shape and colour, sand and water games,
play dough, painting, model making, computers, small world play, construction, mud kitchen, gardening.
A prayer is said before we have lunch in the classroom and then the children are supervised by the welfare
staff as they enjoy exploring the outdoor environment.
In the afternoon, we have a register, followed by a short carpet session before working in small groups
developing specific skills, for example: listening and attention, fine motor skills, numbers and writing.
Healthy snacks are available during the afternoon session. Group and individual reading takes place
throughout the day.
The children enjoy a short story before a prayer and home time at 3.30.
