A taste of daily life in the Reception classes

Our day begins at 8:45am, when children arrive at school and enjoy toast and a bottle of milk before registration at 8:55am. We then start with a morning activity focused on developing fine motor skills. Following this, the children take part in their daily Read, Write, Inc. phonics sessions, where they learn sounds, practice blending and segmenting, develop correct letter formation, and taking part in reading activities.

After phonics, the children explore the outdoor environment before returning to the carpet for a literacy input. This is followed by Continuous provision. During this time children can engage in a range of open-ended activities within both the indoor and outdoor provision. Throughout this time, children also take part in a variety of adult-led and focused activities.

Lunch runs from 11:45am until 1:15pm. The children eat together and then spend the remainder of lunchtime playing outdoors.

In the afternoon, we begin with registration, followed by a Maths input and related activities. Children then continue with Continuous Provision and focused activities before taking part in a whole-class carpet session, which focuses on an area of learning such as RE, Listening and Attention, Music, or Understanding the World.

The children then enjoy a whole-class snack time, where they are provided with a piece of fruit and a drink of water.

The day concludes with a class story and a home-time prayer. The children leave the classroom for the day at 3:30pm
